BIU covers the major environmental issues that affect buildings throughout their operational life and captures data across key sustainability categories, encouraging continual improvement where possible.
BIU is structured to drive sustainability improvements in existing buildings and can contribute significantly to wider environmental reporting, such as GRESB.
It’s two part process can filter relevant parts of an existing buildings operational environmental performance, enabling clients or occupants to focus appraisal in the key areas of significance.
BIU can be used to evaluate existing management policies, procedures and practices related to the operation of these buildings – a term we coined ‘document hygiene’; the consumption of key resources such as energy, water and other consumables; and environmental impacts such as carbon and waste generation.
We have used BREEAM In Use to provide formal certification of institutional portfolios and have worked closely with major Real Estate Investment Funds to assess the inherent performance their assets and plan maintenance and refurbishment expenditure as well as operational costs and carbon profiling.
Our site inspection input and building services knowledge, alongside leading BREEAM In Use Assessment tracking software assists and informs parties at all stages of the assessment, offering transparency and coordination in the assessment phase and enabling us to inform clients and occupants about beneficial improvements and best practice.
