Watkin Jones’ 354-unit PBSA scheme in Nottingham has achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification. Meeting the need for high quality student accommodation in Nottingham, this project ensured drastic improvements to the public area in its vicinity, including a new pedestrian route through the space, a basement car park for public use and a commercial unit on the ground floor for all community members.
Details
Located on Lower Parliament Street within Nottingham city centre, the scheme comprises purpose-built student accommodation with a mix of cluster flats and studio units, alongside ancillary amenity spaces. The development has been carefully designed to integrate with its urban surroundings while enhancing connectivity and activating the street frontage.
The inclusion of a new pedestrian route through the site significantly improves permeability and urban legibility, creating a safer and more accessible connection for both residents and the public. The provision of a publicly accessible basement car park and active ground floor commercial space further reinforces the scheme’s contribution to the local area.
Through a collaborative approach between the developer, design team, and contractor, the project successfully achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification. The scheme not only delivers high-quality student accommodation but also sets a benchmark for sustainable, community-focused PBSA developments in Nottingham.
