UK NZCBS

Achieving verification against the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS) requires more than setting ambitious targets. It requires coordination at every stage of delivery.

Since 2026, the UKNZCBS has been backed by independent verification, moving the definition of a net zero building away from design stage prediction towards measured, in use performance. A building is confirmed as Net Zero Carbon Aligned only once it has met the Standard's limits on embodied carbon, operational energy and fossil fuel use - and evidenced that performance over its first year of occupation.

Meeting this definition depends on decisions made at the very start of a project, carried through to handover and beyond. As your Net Zero Carbon Coordinator, Carbon.Climate.Certified provide the single, consistent role that holds a project to the Standard's requirements, from early strategy through to a verified outcome. Using established methodologies, we work with close reference to market-leading ESG and net zero carbon frameworks, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Science Based Targets, the UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Framework and the UK NZCBS.

We help clients agree their net zero strategy and targets at design stage, through whole life carbon assessment and option appraisal against the Standard's limits. During construction, we implement and monitor that strategy, maintaining the evidence trail through to practical completion and the optional PC on track check at handover.

In operation, we establish the monitoring needed to capture the twelve months of in-use data the Standard requires, then coordinate the appointment of an independent verifier through to a Net Zero Carbon Aligned outcome. Our in depth analysis and specialist consultancy give clients a holistic understanding of the carbon associated with their projects, enabling informed decisions at every stage.

We coordinate your building's route to verification

Working alongside the design team and contractor, we translate the Standard's limits into clear, project-specific targets, track performance against them as the design develops, and assemble the robust evidence base that verification requires. Verification itself is carried out independently by an accredited third party; our role is to ensure that, when your project reaches that point, the evidence is complete, defensible and fully aligned with the Standard.

Staying at the forefront

The UKNZCBS is evolving quickly, and our team actively tracks its guidance, verification requirements and supporting annexes so that our clients benefit from current, credible advice. We have supported a range of clients, providing tailored solutions that meet each organisation's goals and achieve ambitious, industry leading carbon targets.
