We have extensive experience delivering complex, high-profile developments with demanding environmental, sustainability and public realm requirements, demonstrated through our long-term involvement at the Paradise Circus regeneration scheme.
Since 2014, we have acted as BREEAM Assessor and BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) for Federated Hermes and MEPC across multiple commercial office buildings, including One Chamberlain Square, Two Chamberlain Square, One Centenary Way and Three Chamberlain Square, alongside extensive public realm works interfacing with the Birmingham Metro, listed assets and major highways infrastructure. All buildings achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ or ‘Outstanding’, despite significant delivery and commercial challenges.

Management of access and public interface constraints
Working within a dense, live city centre environment, we advised on construction logistics, staging and access strategies to meet BREEAM requirements. This included maintaining safe public interfaces, maximising sustainable transport opportunities, and minimising disruption to adjacent occupied buildings within constrained and overlapping works.
Acting as Sustainability Lead and BREEAM AP, we coordinated ecology, energy, drainage, materials and transport strategies from RIBA Stage 2 onwards. We worked closely with leading consultants and contractors to embed practical, deliverable solutions, including SuDS integration, low carbon energy strategies and responsible material specification.
We also supported Federated Hermes in developing an early ESG strategy for the scheme, using Three Chamberlain Square as a pilot. This aligned BREEAM delivery with wider fund-level ESG objectives, including performance monitoring and reporting.
The phased delivery within a live environment required careful coordination of overlapping programmes and interfaces. We maintained BREEAM performance throughout construction, responding to evolving site conditions and delivery risks.
At One Chamberlain Square, following the collapse of Carillion, we supported the transition to a new contractor while maintaining the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. At Three Chamberlain Square, we managed significant value engineering without loss of the ‘Outstanding’ certification.
Over the lifecycle of the scheme, we also navigated multiple updates to BREEAM standards, planning policy and Building Regulations, ensuring continued compliance without impacting programme or design integrity.
This experience demonstrates our ability to deliver BREEAM and ESG outcomes across complex, phased developments, providing pragmatic, solutions-led support to maintain sustainability ambitions despite programme, cost and delivery challenges.
